Commercial water leak service in Blue Ash, Ohio, involving a 4″ ductile iron water main for a commercial street under 6″ of asphalt. In order to do a good job, I had to ask them to shut down the main to 12 businesses! The end result was being able to locate the line properly and provide a good water leak location for the customer. The challenge on this line was that the 4″DI main had a longitudinal crack which was wide open. While there was a large amount of water escaping from the leak, not much noise was generated due to the size of the opening and the cavity that had formed around the pipe. According to the plumber, the 4″ main water leak location was 6ft deep and was very close to the blue ‘X’.
